HYANNIS – In mid morning on Friday, as part of a nationwide group of vigils to shine a light on immigrant detention camps and treatment of immigrants, there was an interfaith gathering of people at the First Baptist Church.
There was music, fellowship, empathy, and calls for action. There were stories. And prayers.
The vigil had been planned for outside but the weather, humid and threatening rain, moved the event inside so signs that people brought were taped to the walls of the church.
Citing the “Abrahamic tradition” there were sayings from the Christian, Jewish and Muslim religions on the walls. The message was the same, though put profoundly in many different ways.
The event was part of gatherings across the nation Friday, all organized by Lights For Liberty, a coalition of people from across the country dedicated to human rights.
