WOODS HOLE – “Neil would have loved this,” said Carol Armstrong, the widow of the first man to walk on the moon.
Watch as she gives brief comments after the new research vessel for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the R/V Neil Armstrong arrived in Woods Hole to great ceremony on Wednesday morning. The ship is funded by the US Navy.
In these comments, Armstrong mentions an earlier talk by astronaut Sunita Williams, who has family in Falmouth. Williams had talked about how all Space Shuttles were named after ships and so it is appropriate that there are now two new research vessels – the R/V Sally Ride at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and the R/V Neil Armstrong at WHOI – that are named after space explorers.
