CAPE COD – It’s Christmas Eve and we just saw Santa taking off from the Falmouth Village Green, going against traffic no less.
But if anyone can negotiate that irksome intersection, it’s the man in red, his supersonic sleigh and eight tiny reindeer, including one with a suspiciously red glowing nose.
As a steady rain falls on Cape Cod today, it seems like all 210,000 or so Cape Codders have last-minute errands to run, picking up gifts, groceries and perhaps a bottle of wine or two. If you venture into a package store today, be prepared to see someone you know.
The temperature feels positively balmy but we all sense the harsher days of winter are to come.
For now, we try to put aside the dread of the future and the pain of the past for a short time to celebrate the holiday, be it Christmas, Hanukkah or just a non-denominational present swap.
Keep the man in red in mind as you try to accomplish all your tasks. Remember, he’s got oodles of gifts to deliver all over the world in just one night. You just have to worry about family and friends. Not so bad when you look at it that way. Isn’t perspective a wonderful thing?
Merry Christmas to all from Cape Cod Wave!
