WEST FALMOUTH – Yet another sign of spring, and a good one for boaters. Mooring balls have started to appear in West Falmouth Harbor.
On Saturday, Todd Taylor of West Falmouth Mooring Service, towed his blue George Williams skiff to West Falmouth Harbor and put out a half dozen mooring balls for the season. It’s just to get a few early people in the water, he explained. Eventually, he’ll put a total of 110 mooring balls in, he said.
Taylor, 52, a full-time Falmouth firefighter, said he was happy to get out on the water on what he called “one of the nicest days of this year, so far.”
While he has begun putting out the mooring balls, he said he expected the summer season to start late this year. A lot of kids have to make up school from this winter, he said.
“The water is a little cold, so that sets the season back a little bit too,” he said. “There was a lot of ice out here,” said Taylor,
In addition to putting in moorings, Taylor said he got out “some of the winter sticks that got stuck in the mud.”
