WOODS HOLE – It is official. The Marine Biological Laboratory and the University of Chicago are now affiliated. Leaders of the two institutions met Monday in New York City to sign the agreement.
At the signing were MBL President and Director Joan V. Ruderman, MBL Board of Trustees Chairman John W. Rowe, University of Chicago President Robert J. Zimmer, and UChicago Board of Trustees Chairman Andrew Alper.
Ruderman made the announcement this morning, stating that the affiliation will “strengthen both institutions’ missions of leadership and innovation in scientific research and education.”
The affiliation is expected to take effect July 1, she stated.
UChicago Professor Neil Shubin has been appointed to help provide faculty leadership for the affiliation.
