WOODS HOLE – Endless winter looks like this: ice skating on Eel Pond. “My husband saw it frozen in the 70s,” said a woman ice skating at sunset on Eel Pond. “I’ve been here 27 years, and I’ve never seen it like this,” she said.
The skater said her name was Pam, and declined to give her last name. Her husband declined to give his first name but his silent enthusiasm for skating was identity enough for us.
Meanwhile David Domingos, of Falmouth, walked onto Eel Pond with his wife, Darlene. Earlier, they had seen hockey players clearing the ice. By the time that David and Darlene arrived at the pond, it was getting dark so they decided not to skate.
But they had to walk onto it. “You don’t get too many chances to stand on Eel Pond,” said David.
Darlene described the frozen pond as, “Mother Nature Extreme.”
“It’s pretty special to see it frozen,” said David. “It’s one of those experiences you won’t get too many times in a lifetime.”
