DENNIS – Fred Monthei made sure to remind everyone at O’Shea’s Olde Inne about the songwriting prowess of the great John Prine, as Monthei deftly and passionately covered at least of couple of Prine’s songs.
When he pulled out this original, “Off The Farm Now,” we couldn’t help but notice the storyteller influence that Monthei seemed to pull from Prine for it. Monthei, who explained that he grew up on a farm, took the audience on a well-painted journey in this song. His creative background shows he knows how to tell a story.
When we got to O’Shea’s, he was playing along with the bluesy guitar virtuoso, Brother Phil as they collaborated on unique takes of obscure and semi-obscure covers.
We saw them each perform an original song alone, and each were great – obviously.
But we couldn’t help thinking how we’d love to see what they could write together. Seeing them together was truly a treat.
