PROVINCETOWN – Cue the piano…Da da, da dum dum dum..
“Thank you all for coming. To scream along with Billy. I hope you get drunk and act terribly silly. Bobby at the bar will get you very drunk, and they’ve got locking bathrooms if you wanna do bumps.
Over my shoulder this bundle of joy is my best friend Sue and she’s a girl not a boy, She gets so mad when I get high, but if I didn’t have Sue I’d probably die. So clap for Sue, come on give it up for Sue…
So scream along with Billy, scream along with Billy, scream along with Billy at the Grotta Bar.”
For two decades, the punk-cabaret show Scream Along With Billy, with its own theme song that was a preview window into the joyous chaos of the show, played every summer at the Grotta Bar.
In that tiny basement bar, Billy Hough on piano and Susan Goldberg on bass were, according to Billy’s brother Paul, “conducting an orchestra of drunk locals and tourists… It was a living thing. It was not a show so much as it was an experience.”
