Portuguese Folklore Song at 4C’s Multicultural Festival – VIDEO

BARNSTABLE – As we were walking towards the indoor/outdoor Multicultural Festival on the campus of Cape Cod Community College, we heard music.

So while most of the festival took place inside, we were especially enthralled by this participatory Portuguese folklore tale performed by the Saint Anthony’s Folklore Group of Pawtucket, R.I.

Victor Santos, the lead singer of the group and also the assistant vice president of human resources at the college, said the folklore group consists of five musicians, four singers and eight partners of dancers (meaning 16 dancers)

This song is called, “Ladrao,” or “The Robber,” he said. Some attendees of the festival joined in. Thus, it became our favorite part of the festival.

According to Remmy Waegelein, a work/study student working in the art gallery during the festival, about 50 nations were represented. This was the 16th year the festival has been held.

– We mostly cover original music written by Cape Cod musicians. If you like Cape Cod music, here is a story that Cape Cod Wave did on the Cape Cod original music scene. We interviewed 20 musicians, four club owners, and two radio deejays – Cape Cod Music And The Joy Of Being Originally Alive
