Cygnets Signal Spring in Falmouth

Written by Laura M. Reckford

FALMOUTH – Gotta love spring on Cape Cod, as the flowers bloom and the baby animals make their appearances.

In Falmouth at Shivericks Pond in the center of town, spring means it is time to keep an eye out for baby swans, or cygnets.

Those of us who walk by the pond often, know that the mamma swan has been sitting on her nest in the marshy area on the north corner of the pond for some time. We knew there would be news soon.

Would there be baby swans? How many?

The news came a couple days ago when we noticed passersby looking over at the swans. The babies are small and difficult to spot so it was time to get out the long lens. That’s what we used to capture these photos of the three cygnets with mom and dad.

Happy Mother’s Day.
