HARWICH – Almost a foot of snow that has sat on the frozen ground for a week made our hike through the Robert F. Smith Cold Preserve into a somewhat challenging trek.
Sometimes, on parts the well-tread path, there was ice, and one had to be careful not to slip. And where the snow was deep, it was hard-packed and broke off into thick chunks as each step was taken.
Despite the snow, or more accurately because of the snow, the hike and views, especially of Cold Brook, were really nice.
I used to not like winter, but there is a big part of me that loves the quiet serenity of Cape Cod under a blanket of snow.
