WELLFLEET – Turn your volume up. The Rip-It-Ups are Cape Cod Wave’s favorite band. Here is why.
This is actually how Saturday, day 1 of the Wellfleet Oyster Festival ended: one song, 12 epic minutes of music.
It was all led by Jodi Birchall, a performer unlike any we have ever seen. We could watch and listen to this extraordinary performer all day. The fact that she is the lead singer of this powerful supremely talented band makes it even better. She plays also kazoo, cowbell, and a great trombone, and has a wild, fun onstage personality.
And her voice. Oh my. Yes, she can rock.
As best as we can figure, the lineup of the Rip-It-Ups is somewhat fluid, but Birchall is the face of it all. The band plays at the Oyster Festival every year.
This is actually our longest video we have posted on Cape Cod Wave. Yes, the Oyster Festival is that cool. It’s an oyster festival, for gosh sake! Wellfleet oysters at that.
So enjoy the crowd shots, the dancers, even the guy who falls briefly from a hay bale and pops up smiling. Enjoy the music, the solos, the showmanship Cape Cod style.
This band, the Rip-It-Ups, and this signature Cape Cod event, the Wellfleet Oyster Festival, are in perfect synchronicity. The only thing we’ve ever seen like it was when the Incredible Casuals used to play the Beachcomber.
The Rip-It-Ups at the Oyster Festival is like that scene on steroids. Or rather, on oysters.
