FALMOUTH – The Dillingham Avenue property where the former Nimrod Restaurant stands empty and rotting away is for sale for the third time since it closed in 2012.
The building, originally located down by Surf Drive, has been moved twice since it was hit by a cannonball in the war of 1812. The famous cannonball hole is still there, in the men’s room of the old restaurant. It is that history that is, just barely, keeping the building upright, at least for now.
A “For Sale” sign from Sotheby’s International Realty, recently showed up on the property. The Sotheby’s website lists the price at $1.7 million. “Plans on file, special permit on file and information packet available,” states the Sotheby’s website.
The property is described on the real estate website as a “unique opportunity for the Developer who has vision!”
The real estate agent for the property is Kerrie Marzot. Cape Cod Wave had a phone interview scheduled with Marzot, but she has not returned our calls since scheduling the interview.
The current owner of the property, Pinsonneault Builders, also did not return our emails or calls. Pinsonneault Builders purchased the property in April, 2018 from Warren Dalton, who had hoped to renovate the existing building and create a mixed-use development on the 1.3 acre lot.
Dalton, who has since passed away, had purchased the property in 2013. The Nimrod had been operating as a restaurant until late 2012, when it was foreclosed on.
The building was in such bad shape that a restaurant could not reopen without major renovations. Since that time, the building has sat idle undergoing, essentially, demolition by neglect.
When Dalton was developing his plans for the property, there was a bit of a local outcry from the community to save the historic part of the old building. Since that time, six years ago, the outcry has disappeared.
Slowly, the Nimrod building is disappearing as well.
