Little Surprises Along Shining Sea Bikeway in Falmouth

FALMOUTH – Heading south on Falmouth Shining Sea Bikeway from North Falmouth to Falmouth center, many bikers seem intent on the finish and look straight ahead, focusing on the path and only the path. But for those who take a more leisurely view of the ride, there are surprises to be found in the margins of the path.

A peek through thick shrugs might reveal a couple of horses, or perhaps the circa 1770 Bourne Farm. There are cranberry bogs, greened over this time of year; and marshes stretching to Buzzards Bay. Keep a sharp eye out for dog statues, deer sculptures made of logs, and numerous colorful and unusual murals that decorate the various underpasses.

One elaborate assemblage beside the bikeway, Buzzard’s Nest, is a bit mysterious, featuring wayward signs and found objects.

This is the Shining Sea Bikeway for the leisurely wanderer, the one who is in no hurry for summer to end.
