Chandler Travis’ ability to capture both meanings of the word in such a visceral, musical way, at the 11th annual Christmas Cavalcade for the Homeless, touched lives in ways he probably can not imagine.
With more than 20 acts at the Cavalcade ready to alter the mood every two songs at most, it was a jolly humbug Christmas on December 14 at the Jailhouse Tavern, where more than $10,000 was raised for the NOAH Shelter for the Homeless. Please donate to the NOAH Shelter here.
The Cavalcade is as much of a musicians’ company Christmas party as it is a concert for the audience. The highlight was a musical theatrical performance by The Ticks. This year, they performed “A Christmas Carol,” featuring Chandler Travis as Scrooge.
In Travis’ world, Bah Humbug is part of a Christmas song and part of what makes him, and his holiday cause of raising money for the homeless, so loveable. It hurts a lot to say that Christmas can hurt so bad, so Travis makes it laughable. It is easy to succumb to the past at this time of year, and this this event is truly a present in every sense of the word.
The musicians raised a lot of money for the homeless. But more importantly, perhaps, spirits were raised at the exact time of year when it is needed most. From Cape Cod Wave to Chandler Travis & friends – thank you! You do more good than you will ever know.
