WOODS HOLE – They are the Woods Hole Hot Five, direct from Boston for a one-time only gig under this moniker, playing in the back of a truck for a street full of people on Sunday afternoon.
As folks were gathering for the Woods Hole Community Associations’s centennial celebration pot luck dinner at long tables on closed-off Water Street, four amazing horn players and one drummer in a flamingo hat came rolling into town on a balloon-festooned old truck and parked next to Community Hall.
It was a street concert like no other.
The Woods Hole Hot Five are Donn Scott Shetler on clarinet and sax, Russle Jewel and John Ferry on trombone, Ed Goroza on souzaphone, and Rob Rudin on drums.
This is an old jazz standard composed in 1930 by Jimmy McHugh with lyrics by Dorothy Fields. It is called, “On The Sunny Side Of The Street.”
