Sandy Neck January Sunset – Slideshow

Sandy Neck January Sunset
Written by Brian Tarcy

BARNSTABLE – Sandy Neck is one of the Cape’s true treasures, and we were there on a recent day walking west as the sun was going down.

While it takes a lot of time or an off-road vehicle to access the entire miles-long stretch of sand, there is a parking lot and easy access for walking at least a short distance at this time of year.

Heading west we saw wonderful sunset colors, exquisite lines in the sand, and a somewhat romantic view of the Canal Generating Plant in the golden haze.

In our journey we even met a dog named Brewster, from the town of Sandwich, who seemed to be enjoying this beach in Barnstable quite a bit.

We weren’t quite ready for a swim like Brewster, but we understood Brewster’s joy at being on Sandy Neck Beach in January.
