Anything But A Boat Race – VIDEO

WOODS HOLE – On Sunday afternoon, a few hundred people in the coolest little village in America watched four “unboats” compete in the Anything But A Boat Race – which was everything you would expect, but a whole lot more.

The costumed “sailors” launched their unboats (side note – spell check keeps trying to change that to “gunboats”) from Waterfront Park, near the statue of Rachel Carson.

The event was part of the weekend celebration “The Sea Around Us, Celebrating The Legacy Of Rachel Carson.” And while this science community takes its science seriously, it takes its fun just as seriously – which, we assume, makes the science better.

And as for fun, well, this is dictionary-definition kind of stuff.

As a resident of Falmouth, the event brought Bruce Springsteen’s song, “My Hometown” to mind. And I couldn’t stop smiling at how unusually awesome this place is. It is what it is, and it’s like this.
