PROVINCETOWN – There were sugar daddies and jolly ranchers. There was hard candy. And licking was encouraged. Provincetown Carnival 2015, with a theme of Candyland, was full of double entendres and lots of sugar.
The enormous crowd, in some places as thick as Times Square on New Year’s Eve, were tossed beads and candy and presented a visual feast of all sorts of humans dressed as all kinds of candy.
Much of the crowd was as into the theme of Candyland as the parade participants, sometimes making it difficult to differentiate between the two.
This year’s Cape Cod Wave favorite was the Lollipop Guild, who were very cool yet bordering on creepy – just perfect.
While the parade itself is the central highlight of the event, the pre-parade and post-parade street scene on Commercial Street, is our favorite part of Carnival. Nothing quite compares to the normalcy exuded by folks casually going about their day dressed from head to toe as candy.
The weather was perfect. The day was sweet.
