Pickerel Cove Recreation Area, Mashpee – Slideshow

Pickerel Cove, Mashpee
Written by Brian Tarcy

MASHPEE – The 1.8 mile loop through the Pickerel Cove Recreation Area, just off Route 130, is an easy mostly flat woodsy walk that takes you to Pickerel Cove, part of Mashpee-Wakeby Pond.

Cape Cod has hundreds of kettle ponds, which were created by retreating glaciers about 18,000 years ago. Mashpee-Wakeby Pond is the deepest of these, and this little cove offers a great view into a small portion of the pond.

Along the way on the recent day I hiked here, I came across my favorite shed in the woods, as well as three people on motor bikes. They were enjoying these trails at a faster pace.

I kept it slow, breathing it all in.
