VINEYARD SOUND – There is really no bad way to approach Woods Hole—just as long as you are going to arrive. But arriving by ferry boat is a particularly good way. That’s what we were thinking as the Steamship Authority’s M/V Martha’s Vineyard slid gently into the slip at Woods Hole on a cold and blustery late winter day.
A seagull hung out with us for the ferry ride into Woods Hole Harbor. We named him Jonathan Livingston and commiserated on our mutual plight: hungry but too lazy to get food ourselves.
Spring will be here soon but until then, don’t forget to visit those places on the Cape & Islands that get a little crowded in the high season. Check them out in the slow season, when you’ll have the sidewalks and ferry decks to yourself.
