Lawrence Island, Bourne – Slideshow

Lawrence Island
Written by Brian Tarcy

BOURNE – Recently, I found and hiked Lawrence Island, a hidden gem in the village of Cataumet.

The eight-acre parcel was the first purchase of the Bourne Conservation Trust, which has since purchased several properties for permanent conservation throughout the town.

With Megansett Harbor on one side and Squeteague Harbor on the other, the island is actually a peninsula. There are only a few parking spots on Grasslands Lane off of Scraggy Neck Road.

I walked past a few houses and took a spectacular hike along Squeteague Harbor to access the island, which offered a feast for the eyes, including a group of seagulls playing in the slight waves.

I took my time on the hike and as I was finishing, a golden glow was starting on the shoreline.
