FALMOUTH – Seeing Daddy-O! is a really cool time travel experience. Seeing them, hearing them, and then seeing the older crowd at Jacks Restaurant & Bar react to them was a real treat as they brought a 1950s vibe of fun to the night.
We have tried to get into Jacks more than once to see Daddy-O!, but the band is so popular that we couldn’t find a seat. This time, luck and timing were on our side. It was worth the wait.
Daddy-O! is Robert Chandler (R.C.) on lead guitar and vocals, Brenna Joyce on guitar and vocals, and Bill Kirby (Special ‘K’) on slap bass and vocals. The music was tight and fun and with a repertoire that included all sorts of old songs, including plenty of Johnny Cash. All three members of the band sang lead at various times.
We were particularly taken with the singing of Joyce, who co-wrote (with R.C.) this cool of-the-era original, “Oh So Blue”
One more note. It is great to see the music scene that Jacks has created. When Jack and Suzanne Sorgi first opened Jacks, they were trying to re-create the popular music scene that occurred for years at the old Nimrod Restaurant. The music is a little different, but the fun factor seems the same. We’ll be back… if we can get in.
