The Catbirds; Steve Wood Original – “I Want It” VIDEO

WELLFLEET – This may be one of the more compelling performances you will ever see. Sometimes in music, maybe back story is everything.

In the case of this performance by the Catbirds, the elephant in the room was Steve Woods’ cancer, which was the entire reason for this fundraiser on Friday night at the Wellfleet Beachcomber. In the last set of seven bands of the night, the Catbirds unveiled this new original song by Wood called, “I Want It.”

It is amazing. Please watch all the way to the end.

This version of the Catbirds was Wood on guitar, his son Sam Wood on drums, the mad genius Chandler Travis on bass, and the amazing Mark Usher on guitar, who played with just about every band on Friday night.

The power of this song roars. But pay close attention to Wood and his son, Sam. Father and son, guitar and drums – literally trying to kick the hell out of the disease that brought them here. At the end of this song, we zoomed in on them.

If you are not moved, you have no rock and roll in your soul.

(We apologize for the sound… our little camera is not always kind to big loud music. But we hope you get the idea of this.)

If you would like to help Steve Wood, here is his Gofundme page.
