WELLFLEET – The view was to gray infinity. Squeezed between a blizzard and an expected deep freeze came a warm, overcast afternoon under a deep fog.
Near the completely empty Chequessett Yacht and Country Club – and a couple other spots on the lower Cape , the Fort Hill area, and Great Island – snow was melting in the 50 degree temperatures, and steam was coming off of what remained of the drifts.
A light drizzle fell, and the half-frozen sea near the coast pulsed. Gray never looked so good.
