CHATHAM – Lighthouse Beach is a spectacular little corner of the Earth. And yet somehow a man-made attraction of organized and well-constructed flotsam and jetsam is a magnet for those who choose walking as an adventure.
Like many of the best sights on Cape Cod, the “Occupy Chatham South Beach” shack can only be reached by foot. It sure is worth the trek, which is maybe shorter than it looks because of the fantastic scenery to distract from the distance being traveled.
We hadn’t been to the Chatham beach shack, which first appeared in 2015, for a while and so on a sunny warm November day we parked and looked out at the long view to the shack. It was a perfect day for a hike.
And while that beach offers so much to overwhelm the senses, we were off to see this unique beach shack.
In some ways, it had changed since the last time we visited. In other ways, the shack, less than ten years old but still surviving the weather on that beach, seemed timeless.
We took our turn, we occupied, and then we moved on, leaving it to the next adventurous soul to sit and contemplate the grandeur.
