FALMOUTH – Winter on Cape Cod is what you make of it, or what you can find. For those who made it to Grumpy’s Pub in Falmouth on Friday night to see the band, Brother’s Rye, they found something like a hoedown inside of a hootenanny, wrapped up in a barn dance.
The exuberant dancing crowd seemed to love every whiskey-drinking song the band offered, and there were plenty of fun ones.
Cape Cod Wave was buying a beer when the band played our favorite song, which we discovered this summer, “Start It Up Again,” with its brilliant opening wintertime Cape Cod lyric from Benjamin Lee Patterson “From where I stand I can see the whole town drinking deep like the breath you take before you fall asleep.”
Here is a two-minute video from Grumpy’s Pub of the energy of a different song performed by Brother’s Rye, showcasing the leaders of the most fun winter hootenanny. Apologies for the sound. I was right next to the speaker.
