EASTHAM – You had to be there. Photos can never fully capture the beauty of a sunset. That’s because the view that the camera captures is only part of it. There is also the special light that a camera can never quite see the way our eyes can. And there is the feeling in the air leaving viewers awestruck. The feeling of awe, the stillness and the crispness of the air, is missing from a photo.

Nonetheless, here we present photos of an awe-inspiring, inspirational, spectacular sunset at Thumpertown Beach.

As Cape Cod insiders know well, the bay beaches of Eastham are great places to catch a sunset because the beaches face west so the sun sets over the water. The tide goes out seemingly for miles leaving intriguing horizontal stripes of sand stretching endlessly.

Add the detail of a couple strolling along the horizon line, forming an exquisite silhouette, plus the reflection of the sunset in the shallow pools of striped sand and you have perfection.

Just another evening on Cape Cod.
