WELLFLEET – The magic of Cape Cod, this place of weather, was on beautiful display from Mayo Beach Wednesday as we watched the sun set over ice and over Great Island.
The frozen water seemed to glow while the chunks of ice at the beach appeared somewhat otherworldly. At the adjacent Wellfleet Harbor, fishing boats were locked in more ice.
After the long stretch of bitter cold that caused all this freeze, this night, by forecast, was merely the prelude to a major storm. The advertised storm has an evolving forecast as this is written.
Here, the ice and sunset attracted a small audience of admirers who knew that while summer on the Cape is awesome, winter has its own kind of amazing.
