PROVINCETOWN – One of the many joys of walking Commercial Street in Provincetown is getting to hear talented musical buskers.
Take, for instance, this really cool original song, “Live Today,” played by Damon Gorham, who lives on a boat in Provincetown Harbor. He earns what he needs by playing music for tips, he said. He often plays covers, but he has dozens of originals.
Gorham was performing near the alley next to the store, Marine Specialties. It is an area of town where a number of talented musicians sometimes hang out between busking on the street.
This loosely assembled group, including Gorham, call themselves the Old Reliable Alley Rats. They sometimes play together as a band, including at the Old Colony Tap.
Other times, they busk on the street – sometimes with one or two or sometimes alone. On this night, Gorham was busking alone.
This original song, a work in progress, has a bouncy guitar riff that is really catchy and interesting. Plus the lyrical message of the song, “Live Today,” is great advice.
