Catbirds at Herring Cove Beach – 2-Minute Video

PROVINCETOWN – The Catbirds, loud and powerful, are like a force of nature so it’s only fitting that we got a video of them playing at Herring Cove Beach, which is now our favorite venue on Cape Cod.

Plus, the only way our little camera would be able to capture the sound of this band without everything being distorted – you know, more than it’s supposed to be – was to get them outdoors. So, yeah, we’ve been waiting a while to capture the magic of Chandler Travis on bass, the great Steve Wood on guitar, Dinty Child on mandolin, and Sam Wood on drums.

This song is an original, “The Crutch of Music.”

A few things about this. First of all, the legend of Steve Wood, as one of the best guitarist you’ll ever see, goes pretty far. We’d been told of him many times in the past year. This video shows only a tiny portion of his skill and power. We stuck around and watched for a while after shutting the camera off. The legend is true.

Also, frankly, we are fans of pretty much all things Chandler Travis. One of the tangential inspirations of Cape Cod Wave was seeing one of his other bands, the Incredible Casuals, at the Beachcomber and hoping to somehow capture that spirit ourselves.

Finally, every town on Cape Cod should allow music by the beach. This video is an editorial.

– If you like Cape Cod music, here is a story that Cape Cod Wave did on the Cape Cod original music scene. We interviewed 20 musicians, four club owners, and two radio deejays – Cape Cod Music And The Joy Of Being Originally Alive
