HYANNIS HARBOR – It was the relative calm before the storm as the 4:05 ferry from Nantucket to Hyannis maneuvered into Hyannis Harbor yesterday.
Past the windsurfers and kitesurfers off Kalmus Beach. Past the wind-powered house boat with the ultra-large deck. Past the ferries and pleasure boats, the fishing boats and tour boats. The Grey Lady IV ferry motored past the harborfront homes and private piers into the Hy-Line dock.
The ferries were full with people on the day after Labor Day, with families, tourists, locals and a photogenic golden doodle named Porter, returning to the mainland after the long weekend.
And with rain in the forecast, we all appreciated the clear blue skies. Calm, relatively, for now.
