ORLEANS – Saturday afternoon at Artists Cottages, Sarah Swain & The Oh Boys set up on a stage while shoppers checked out the crafts on display for a holiday market. The sun was shining.
I saw Mrs. Claus dancing. Everyone was in a good mood, mostly because of this spectacular four-piece band. I have seen Sarah Swain & The Oh Boys! many times, often leaving with my smile muscles hurting.
Saturday was no different, as young children ran joyously through the crowd while the band played a mix of covers and originals, including, notably, a cover sung by bass player Ron Siegel. It was the first time I’d ever heard him as lead singer, and he was charismatic, and great. And during other songs, he of course, climbed his bass while keeping perfect beat.
Speaking of charisma, lead singer Sarah Swain oozes it and her vocal stylings are always fun. And she wrote this song, “I Don’t Care.”
Drummer Liam Hogg is one of our favorite people on Cape Cod, and I will never forget the late P.J. O’Connell talking about how much he admired Liam Hogg.
Finally, guitarist Mark Usher, who may be in as many bands as Liam Hogg is, which is amazing for a guitar player, as you can find a guitar player anywhere. But Usher is versatile, amazing, and a new father. The band dedicated the show to him.
From Cape Cod Wave to one of our favorite guitar players, no matter what band you are in, congratulations Mark!
