How do you sum up the worst year ever? What did we all just live through?
Loneliness and slow-burning emotional chaos has seemingly taken over much of the American psyche. The public has been divided into sides. Politics has infected everything. Facts are disputed.
And worse. Death is news, except when it’s almost not anymore. Numb? When the death toll of 9/11 is an everyday occurrence, it is hard not to be numb.
So to capture the worst year ever in short video? The answer was to use a song by Cape Cod’s mad genius, Chandler Travis, that captured the Zeitgeist of, well, this.
The first time I heard, “What I Want” by Chandler Travis with John Clark, Ken Field and Mark Usher, I was blown away. The video that they produced is moving.
So when I started trying to put something together to sum up this year, there really seemed only one way to do it justice – only one song would do. Chandler Travis graciously allowed Cape Cod Wave to use this song.
Go here to buy Chandler Travis’ music.
I did a slight bit of editing of the lyrical order from the original in order to make it fit this video. I hope you are as moved by the genius of Chandler Travis on this song as I am.
If Cape Cod Wave Magazine survives to do this again next year, maybe things will be brighter.
