FALMOUTH – One of of many jewels of Falmouth, hidden just off of bustling Woods Hole Road, is the 88-acre Peterson Farm which abuts the 400 acres of Beebe Woods.
The farm is a bucolic pasture where sheep are raised, and one recent afternoon we ran into Simon Thorrold, one of the town shepherds and volunteer land stewards at Peterson Farm.
We watched him “watering” the sheep and then feeding them minerals to ensure, he explained, that the animals were getting all the nutrients they need. He was busy but said he could give us a minute of his time. We thought he was a very nice fellow.
Watching how the sheep followed Thorrold as he strode through the fields, it seemed they thought he was a very nice fellow too.
We were impressed at how the sheep followed Thorrold in almost a straight line. We were also impressed by the enthusiasm of his dog, who seemed to almost take flight at times, as the busy sheepdog worked to keep the flock in order.
