FALMOUTH – At 11 AM on Thursday, the weather was unseasonably warm but the slow moving gray skies preceding winter storm Niko were ominous.
By 11:15, the rain started. Fifteen minutes later it turned to snow and an hour later, there were already two inches of white stuff covering the ground. The snow kept going like that all day.
While we’ve seen bigger storms, this one packed enough of a wallop that it was given a name: Niko.
By the time we wandered into downtown Falmouth at 4 PM, we were only pedestrian amidst the lightest of traffic that was mostly plows. Temperatures kept dropping and the wind was rising.
And it looked like this.
