EASTHAM – The last summer day in the fall may have been this past Saturday.
The sky was blue and clear, with thin ribbons of fluffy clouds. The steady breeze off-shore was enough to pull a kite-surfer along on calm seas.
On the bay beaches, the tide went out for seeming miles, with sandbars forming graceful swoops.
Cape Codders do not need a reminder to get out and enjoy the weather.
At Cook’s Brook Beach in Eastham, people were walking barefoot in the sand and sunning in beach chairs.
Children were searching for shells and dogs were frolicking in the surf.
It is fall on Cape Cod and sometimes fall reminds us of summer.
The tourists are mostly gone but the beaches are still here—stretching out to the horizon.
Blink and the moment is missed.
