FALMOUTH – When spring comes around, one place Falmouth locals know to head to is Spohr Gardens, the six-acre paradise of daffodil gardens just a short detour off the road to Woods Hole.
On a recent Sunday, the gardens, a private sanctuary made generously open for public strolling by the Spohr family, were uncrowded. A few families strolled amid the blooming flowers and ancient anchor collection, lined up on the shore of Oyster Pond.
While the parking area at Spohr Gardens is roped off–in line with Falmouth Selectmen’s decision to close public beach parking lots during this time of recommended social distancing–the grounds are still open for strolling to those who walk or bike to the site.
Spohr Gardens’ annual Daffodil Days has been canceled due to the pandemic, but spring has arrived and the flowers are still doing their thing–resplendent as always. In the coming weeks, look for rhododendrons, daylillies and more at this quiet oasis of calm in the midst of our global storm of disheartening news.
