FALMOUTH – The Knob is one of the best places on the Cape to watch a sunset.
These 12 acres jutting into Buzzard’s Bay, donated to the Salt Pond Area Bird Sanctuaries in the 1970s by Cornelia L. Carey, are the perfect short hike from the woods near Quissett Harbor to a near- 360 degree view of Buzzards Bay from atop the Knob itself.
The Knob has undergone a lot of changes over the years, and most of it is to fortify the location against the sea so that it is a viable hiking spot for generations to come.
It is a noble cause as this little peninsula, ending at an elevated round knob, offers some fantastic perspectives of the world turning from daylight to evening.
When we went, it was a wild, windy day that almost felt like the Outer Cape, which has its own special sunsets.
