First Day of Spring, Truro & Eastham

Written by Laura M. Reckford

TRURO – Travel down Cape on the first day of spring with no expectations weather-wise. We bring a bathing suit and a down parka. You just never know.

But yesterday on Cold Storage Beach in Truro, with a picture perfect blue sky and bright sunshine, plus a horizon that stretched to infinity, was about as good as it gets–no matter what time of year. The coastline makes a gentle arc towards Provincetown to the east. The Pilgrim Monument juts up near the end of the arc.

March 20, 2021, one year into the pandemic, the summer approaches with a giant question mark. But spring on Cape Cod is always for the year-rounders. We take in the beaches and the sunsets like they were made just for us.

At the end of this blue sky day, we breathe in deeply and we exhale. It’s safe to do so because no one is nearby. In our separate cars just down the coast at Campground Beach in Eastham, we are all watching the sun spread orange and pink across the sky.

Soon we are the last car left but the glow stays for a few more minutes. Just for us.
