Cape Cod Day Trip: Canal Fog, Squid, & A Race Point Sunset – Slideshow

Written by Brian Tarcy

What can one find in one day on Cape Cod?

In one day, from corner to corner to corner of this peninsula where every moment and every place is different, we found this – the visual poetry of a Cape Cod day trip.

The fog sat on the Cape Cod Canal Sunday morning like some kind of Golden Gate dream. The 10th day of May looked like it was going to be interesting, and so we embarked from the canal to the Chatham Fish Pier Fish at the elbow of this arm-shaped peninsula.

Our Cape Cod day trip led us to a load of fresh squid. The fog was lifting, but the view remained between sunny and hazy.

By the time we arrived at Coast Guard Beach in Eastham, the sun had burned through the fog, and early spring had turned to almost summer as folks gathered on the beach, while a surfer rode the waves.

What a day.

Wellfleet Harbor, and Great Island in Wellfleet were both overwhelming to the senses in that Cape Cod kind of way. All was bright with the world.

And then, finally, to Race Point, an end of the Earth place, to watch the sunset and dream of the next day on Cape Cod.
