CAPE COD – Every one of these “photos” has, in one way or another, appeared previously in Cape Cod Wave. But these are what we call Cape Cod abstract naturals, meaning we have manipulated them in some way, or many ways.
We came upon the idea of abstract naturals from Cape Cod upon seeing the reflection of part of a sailboat and realizing by mistake (how we do everything) that cropping made the photo into something else entirely.
When we cropped a specific part, what we saw was more than merely a photo of a sailboat reflection. It was, in fact, entirely different – something like the surrealistic crazy stuff we’ve seen done by the coolest artists.
The ocean did it by itself.
All we did was crop. So we imagined what would happen if we played around.
These are all natural shots with the colors manipulated. Almost all are cropped, and some are flipped. But every single one of these began as a photo from Cape Cod.
This slide show was inspired by a recent abstract show at the Falmouth Arts Center. To see stuff that is actually good, we recommend you visit there.
