Winter Views at Rock Harbor in Orleans, Slideshow

Written by Laura M. Reckford

ORLEANS – Just us and the seagulls hanging around earlier this week at Rock Harbor.

A few fishing boats were tied up at the dock. Cap’t Cass Rock Harbor Seafood and Young’s Fish Market are closed up tight for the winter, of course. The 13-foot tall bronze angel high above the tower of the Church of the Transfiguration keeps a watchful eye.

We’ve seen all those things before but sometimes it pays to take a closer look at familiar sites. The faded buoys on the Cap’t Cass wall, the trees reflected in the window of a fishing boat, the yellow beak of a seagull all warranted a second glance.

A few cars showed up around lunch time, as people gazed out to sea while eating sandwiches. But we were looking in the opposite direction, spending far too long studying the gang of seagulls perched on the pier.
