Winds Pick Up Off Chatham–Winter’s Coming

Written by Laura M. Reckford

CHATHAM – A never-fail place for a can-you-believe-we-live-here view is at Lighthouse Beach in Chatham.

This time of year, the lighthouse is festooned with a giant wreath. It keeps watch over the perspective: the harbor, layers of sandbars dotted with seals and the churning Atlantic Ocean beyond.

Just watching the fishing boats maneuver through the channel thick with white caps is enough to keep the viewer on edge, anxious with interest.

The lay of the land is windblown scrub dotted with bright red berries and yellow leaves, with chirping terns providing the background chorus.

Standing out in the elements, the wind picks up to a stern blow.

Bundle up, winter’s coming.
