BOURNE – We have biked the Cape Cod Canal trail before but on a cloudy day there were clear surprises.

The three bridges, up close, revealed previously unseen angles.

A pirate-themed house, complete with squawking multi-colored parrot, got us smiling at the southern end of the canal.

Men dressed in medieval garb performed a show at Aptucxet.

A peek through the trees gives a glimpse of Cape League baseball.

There are always lots of fishermen. That’s no surprise.

On most every light pole, there were the cormorants, who seemed to pose just for us.

And then the sun came out, bathing the canal in a late afternoon glow.
