Sacred Mounds, “Grifter” – Music VIDEO

EASTHAM – It’s hard to come up with enough superlatives for the Sacred Mounds other than to reiterate what we thought the very first time that we saw them: We cannot believe this is a local band playing anywhere on Cape Cod other than the Melody Tent.

There are a half dozen or more bands on the Cape that, with the right combination of luck and opportunity, could easily be famous. The Sacred Mounds, we say, should be famous. If you’ve ever seen them, you won’t forget this unique band.

Seeing them on Friday night at the friendly and cool Brickhouse Restaurant in Eastham just reinforced the feeling. From the first notes of the first song, the tight band catches your attention.

Previously, we’d only seen the band as a lean duo – lead singer and guitar player Christoph Eize and drummer Luke Massouh. And the two of them blew us away. The songs, each one, were great.

But the Sacred Mounds are actually a four piece band with a fuller sound from bass player Kevin O’Rourke and dobro player Jonathan Huge. And oh those songs… each one was great.

Here is an original song by the Sacred Mounds called, “Grifter.”

And we’d like to point out 10 particular seconds of this, from 2:56 to 3:06, which we find particularly cool framing of a dobro and a drummer.
