The GroovaLottos In Falmouth – Music VIDEO

FALMOUTH – Three musicians. Wow. Hearing the GroovaLottos, it seemed like we were hearing more musicians with more layers than we what were actually watching. It fit together, and the sum was greater than the parts, while the sound had our head bopping.

The GroovaLottos are a power trio: drums, bass, and a keyboard, and self-described on their website as coming from the Cherokee, Choctaw and Wampanoag communities.

Playing a mix of soul, funk and blues, the GroovaLottos are Eddie Ray Johnson on drums and vocals; Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor on  keyboards and vocals; and Melvin “MEL” Coombs, Jr.  on bass.

We watched several songs by the Groovalottos at JR Brody’s on Saturday night, as we were mesmerized by how the three melded together to create something that made us smile and bop along.

We saw several great original songs, including this one that made us think of Ray Charles, “Just Friend Blues.”
