Birthday kayaking in Wellfleet

Written by Brian Tarcy

WELLFLEET – William Miller and Nicole Smith of Rutland had never been to Cape Cod before. “We got here today,” said Smith, on Monday. “We went to the campsite and set up, and then we came right here.”

Smith, 29, is from upstate New York. Miller, 25, is from Johnson City, Tennessee. He manages a restaurant and she is looking for work. They met when she went to college in Tennessee. They recently moved to Rutland. “It’s his birthday tomorrow,” said Smith. “I wanted to do something memorable.”

So they used their GPS in a town they’d never been in before, and followed a road they’d never been on before, to get to a town landing where they hoped they’d be able to launch their kayaks from, and they discovered this – the town landing at King Philip Road, Field Point in Wellfleet.

Something memorable… check.
